Project Description
The exterior of this partial renovation project was built with traditional Indian elements- slopping roofs, extended verandas, projected chajjas, etc. To provide for a memorable living experience the interiors had to be in contrast to the exterior with a seamless transition. Thus the interiors demanded a contemporary style, while complimenting the existing architectural language. Openings were redesigned to ensure a distinct natural connect to the serene outdoor garden. Compartmentalizing the linear central corridor ensured that each node had a distinct character and function with respect to the areas it connected. The project housed three generations of family members – this informed all major design decisions like choosing of furniture, elegant color palettes, etc. Good quality old furniture were refurbished rather than scrapped – this ensured the preservation of certain memories associated with elements that have been part of their lives. Creating spaces that would provide a complete new look and experience in the very same space they had been living in for so long was the major task achieved in this project.
