Project Description

Being one in many houses, sheathed in a set of high rise apartments, the project presented us a unique challenge to create a home that forms a distinct identity for its users but at the same time, also responds to their age, lifestyle and set of social activities.

The dwelling is designed for a couple in their 60 s, and this administered a lot of design decisions. We made an attempt to understand their likes/ dislikes, their hobbies such as travelling, music etc. and their way of living, incorporating all of these learnings in the interior design of the apartment. Further trying to understand the roots of our clients, we discovered that they originally belong from Shekhawati, a small historical region in Rajasthan. With an aim create to create a link to their native place, the moodboard for the apartment is inspired from the kingfisher bird, which is frequently seen at the Bharatpur Sanctuary situated close to Shekhawati district.

The sumptuous four bedroom apartment on the ninth floor comprises of a double height living space that further connects to the other functional areas of the dwelling. A visual separation is created between the living and the dining area using a series of suspended light fixtures while also incorporating an additional wash area near the dining with the backdrop of a semi-precious pink stone.

The double height living room extends into a semi-open deck, giving a splendid view of the city. It was important to create a contrast between the indoor and the outdoors, while maintain a smooth transition between the two.

The passage comprises of a custom made travel wall, where the inhabitants may mark the different countries they have been to along with a souvenir from each one of them. A mehfil room was introduced for the users to divulge into their hobby of Indian classical music, allowing them to host a small group of friends in a space that is crafted to echo that theme.
